Almost every person has a question and that is how to appear smart and confident?
And like everyone, appearing well dressed during the meetings is my top priority. Well, being confident and sharp during the meeting provides you an edge over others. Here are my 10 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings.
1.) Time is everything
First things First, being accurate and punctual is what that matters the most. If the meeting is going to start at 11:00 am then be there at 10.55. This will make your other co-workers as weel as your superiors think that you value the work.
2.) Dress Intelligently
So, you want to know how to dress intelligent? Well, there is a saying "dress to impress" and you can put it anywhere. For a meeting, you should wear a formal shirt, trouser and shoes and a Dark colored tie. Honestly saying wearing a colorful tie can make you look like a fool, and last but not the least do not forget to wear a watch.
3.) Speak confidentially
If you are not able to speak in meetings then you should know how to speak confidently in meetings. Well being confident is an integral part of a person's behavior. Prepare yourself and speak confidently but remember don't be cocky as it may have a negative impact.
4.) Ask Questions
Don't be that guy who just sits on his seat from the starting of the meeting till the end. ask some questions and engage with your co-workers. This will make you more professional and attentive between your colleagues and you can score well in the eyes of your seniors. These are some positive things to say in a meeting.
5.) Encourage everyone
Be encouraging with your colleagues use phrases like "Guys we can totally do it" "This is the right time" etc. This will not only encourage them but will also make you look like a leader in their eyes.
6.) Use idioms
You can always use an idiom to a question as it is a subtle and smart way of questioning it. You can use some of these idioms:
- Isn’t that putting lipstick on a pig?
- Seems like we’re polishing a turd.
7.) Write essential points
It would be great to note down the important points that are being said during the meeting. You can ask relevant questions from the points during the meeting. This will make you look more attentive.
8.) Ask if we are creating a right Framework
If you start talking about important topics like that if we are creating the right platform or is the framework correct? Questions like these can make you look bigger in front of your colleagues.
9.) Ask the presenter to take a slide back
Wel, this is just like asking questions and will also give the same result i.e. people will think you are paying close attention to the topics that are embraced in the meeting.
10.) Make an analogy that has a deep meaning
Try to make an analogy about baking a cake, or something that is completely unrelated. The colleagues will nod their head in agreement even if they don't understand you. Ultimately you'll look smarter from all of them.
